About

I am founder of a new company involved in providing economic and financial analysis.

I have been active as an investor in Internet companies since the 1999. My deals have included the good: Mondus, Powerset, Inuk Networks, PlanetOut and the, ahem, mediocre (Another.com).

I have held executive and advisory roles for businesses like Thomson Reuters, BBC, BT, McKinsey, Ofcom, Samsung, Nokia and Ericsson.

I have helped several start-up businesses including True Knowledge, Desitouch and Bouf.com. I am informally help several start-up CEOS with issues particularly around managing board and investor expectations and creatively solving problems when you have no cash.

I started my career at The Guardian where I was a journalist, editor, Web guy and load-balancer. I moved to The Economist where I covered the tech scene and was involved in the launch of The Economist.

My interests include

  • finance, including risk management, asset allocation, algorithmic trading, fund management, alternative investments
  • economics, including behavioural economics and theories of economics
  • Internet startups and the internet revolution (still revolting after all these years).

My current obsession is Peggle (and apologies for Reddit for not visiting for ages).
